LGBT+ helpline offering a place for calm words when you need them most.

You can talk about anything with the Switchboard volunteers, who all self-define as LGBT+. Nothing is off limits, and the volunteers understand how anxious you might feel before you pick up the mobile. Calls are confidential and they only finish when you&#;re ready.

You can communicate (lines open everyday) or email Switchboad (emails typically replied to within 72 hours).

Switchboard is the national LGBTQIA+ support line for anyone, anywhere in the region, at any point in their journey. They give a telephone helpline providing information, support and referral service for lesbians, lgbtq+ men, bisexual and transsexual people or anyone questioning their sexuality.

Here are some of the things people might call for:

  • Support for a man who has been a victim of homophobic abuse, but has previously had a poor experience going to the police.
  • Contact details for an LGBTQIA+ friendly therapist.
  • Support for a lesbian teenager thrown out of her abode by her parents, and who needs somewhere to stay.
  • Information about a back group for a bloke who wants to wear women's clothes for the first time in public.
  • Information on how to acquire to local gay pubs for someone with mobility issues.
  • Times and places for a local bisexual social group.
  • Listening to some of the concerns a mother has about her minor who is trans.

Every dial is unique, and Switchboard prides itself on responding to the changing needs of our communities by providing a service that's continually evolving and relevant.

Our helpline provides you with support and information and will connect you to the right LGBTQ+ services or advice.

You can converse to us confidentially and anonymously about anything that’s on your mind.

We endorse people with a range of questions and we believe that listening can help, whether you are looking for information and support or just require someone to talk to.

We are volunteer-run and have two or three listening volunteers on during shifts. If you&#;re unable to acquire through, please try again. Alternatively, we operate a live webchat service during helpline hours.

    Description of service

    An information, support and referral service for lesbians, male lover men and bisexual and trans people – and anyone considering issues around their sexuality and/or gender identity. Confidential, welcoming, supportive and non-judgemental. The helpline operates from 10am to 10pm seven days a week, 52 weeks a year.
