SUZE ORMAN: The US Tax Code Is “A Travesty” For Gay Couples
Personal finance expert Suze Orman took a pause from her soap box at CNBC on Monday to speak candidly about her experience as a gay taxpayer in America.
"There is such discrimination [in our tax code], from insurance benefits to Social Security benefits anything you can possibly believe of," Orman said during a conference call coordinated by the Respect for Marriage Coalition.
"It's a travesty to say the least."
The crux of the gay marriage tax debate is this: So long as states maintain to legally recognize lgbtq+ marriage while the federal government does not, couples essentially have double the amount of work on their plate when filing their tax returns each year.

Suze Orman: Exist below your means, but within your needs. With most people, the more money you make the more money you use. From this day forward every time you are about to purchase something ask yourself “Is this a want or a need?” If it’s a want, don’t buy it. If it’s a desire then you have to do it. If everything you spend money on this day forward is a need and not a want then you will have extra funds, and if you can get as much enjoyment out of saving that you do as spending, then you will include more money.
