A Quick Tutorial To Learning “Gandara Park” & More Beki Words

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Beki. Beki, who? Skillfully, definitely not Becky with the good hair, but the one and only Beki language! You grasp the colorful and always evolving gay lingo spoken in the Philippines. Another name for this well-liked Filipino gay language is "Swardspeak," which was coined in the s by film critic Nestor Torre. Beki uses words from popular culture, brand names, various Filipino dialects, as well as phrases from English, Spanish, and even Japanese; these borrowed words are given new, playful meanings and then used in everyday conversations. Interesting question! Surfing the web, I've found this site from a traditional (and reliable) Chilean newspaper: Glosario: Los términos que debes conocer para debatir sobre la diversidad sexual y de género |

I consent that "queer" still echoes as a derogatory synonyms with reminiscence to the Stonewall riots, but fresh generations (Millenials?) are getting more used to the word. (Remember the global impact of a demonstrate like Queer as Folk.)

If I were you, I'd translate it more as "questioning" and with something like (movimiento/agrupación de) "lesbianas, gais, transexuales, bisexuales y personas que cuestionan su identidad de género." But I'm open to criticism!

It's important we see RAE's recommendation on how to use the synonyms "gay" in plural. Please, check RAE::ORTOGRAFÍAfor more info.
