LGBTQIA Resource Center Glossary

GLOSSARY

The terms and definitions below are always evolving, altering and often mean distinct things to different people. They are provided below as a starting show for discussion and knowledge. This Glossary has been collectively built and created by the staff members of the LGBTQIA Resource Center since the first s.

These are not universal definitions. This glossary is provided to help provide others a more thorough but not entirely comprehensive understanding of the significance of these terms. You may even consider asking someone what they represent when they use a term, especially when they use it to narrate their identity. Ultimately it is most important that each individual define themselves for themselves and therefore also define a word for themselves.

“If I didn't define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people's fantasies for me and eaten alive.” -Audre Lorde

This glossary contains terms, such as ableism and disability, that may not be considered directly related to identities of sexuality or gender. These terms are significant to acknowledge as part of our mission to challenge all forms of oppression

A two-CD song recital that I set aside last year because it didn’t have program notes or the sung texts just surfaced in my pile. This time I noticed a QR code that gets me the program notes on my cellphone, and I finally figured out that they’re also on the record company’s website. I read them—they’re by the much-published journalist on music Roger Pines—and was immediately intrigued.

Eric Ferring, a marvelous young tenor who has been doing lyric and coloratura roles at the Met recently (e.g., Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Pong in Puccini’s Turandot) made his debut recording in this album with pianist Madeline Slettedahl.

No Decision but Love: Songs of the LGBTQ+ Community is an imaginative compilation of songs by gay and lesbian composers (seven men, two women) plus a “Mexican American transgender composer”, Mari Esabel Valverde. The more recent songs often address the challenges of being different (or organism thought “different”) in mainstream society, and these are the ones that held my attention most.

The album opens with the well-known song composer Ben Moore’s deeply engaging four-song Love Remained, based on highly personal texts by alternative authors, inc

Passion (CD)

Description

The definition of "passion" encapsulates perfectly this collection of music, men and message. When we began planning this program we investigated all aspects of things about thick we are intensely passionate. It came down to song, love and life.

The society premiere of Jake Heggie's "For a Look or a Touch" was performed in by the Seattle Men's Chorus. It is and incredibly passionate cherish story that we are proud to present on this recording. Wait, who is not on same footing? Gay gamers vs. a few Polish guys from CDPR that didn't even know how to make a game?

Gay gamers in a society that still does not accept them.

Remember when CDPR's unique idea was to include a female protagonist, and publishers told them it was a really worst idea and they freaked out and backed out? How many times acquire we heard about companies fightning to have a female protagonist?

Yea, now imagine their reaction to a gay protagonist. Or to an Arab protagonist.

EDIT: this reminds me of another guy who told me when I was criticizing the lone ranger for having a native american protagonist be played by a white guy, that "native americans should have more actors." Yea, because their situation is so luxurious right now and Hollywood is so easy and accessible to get into as a poc actor.
